National Day of Prayer

Just in case you missed it, the National Day of Prayer occurred today as proclaimed by our president (presidential proclamation - national day of prayer). A judge correctly noted that the National Day of Prayer did not fit the ideals of separation of Church and State envisioned by many of our founding fathers, but she did not suggest that it should be cancelled this year though many people have reported that it was cancelled. Meetings were held around the country to observe the National Day of Prayer. It bothers me that people are making a big deal about how it was "cancelled" when it turns out to be a falsehood. I am reminded of a conversation I had with my daughter last weekend about the fact that anger is not wrong unless it keeps us from being in control of ourselves. Many politicians have learned how to use public anger to gain support, and I am seeing certain politicians using public anger on issues such as the allegedly cancelled National Day of Prayer to gain support for their campaigns. I told Middlesweet to remember that anger should not guide us, but motivate us to act. Let us remember to check the facts and follow the truth rather following our guts as unthinking angry Americans.
